Printing on Half Letter
Many printers can feed Half Letter directly, and it appears in driver menus as Statement or 5.5 × 8.5. The easier route is to print two pages side by side on a Letter sheet and cut once, which is how most print shops produce it. Unprintable margins are about 0.17 in (4 mm) on inkjets and 0.25 in (6 mm) on lasers.
With 0.125 in bleed the artboard is 5.75 × 8.75 in (146 × 222 mm). Two bleed pages still fit on a Letter sheet only if you accept tight crop marks, so shops often run them on Legal or Tabloid instead. At 300 dpi a Half Letter page is 1650 × 2550 pixels.

Where Half Letter comes from
Half Letter is simply what its name says: a Letter sheet halved along its long edge. Stationers sold it as Statement paper for account statements and short notes, and it was a common memo size in offices before email. It has no separate standard of its own, but ANSI/ASME Y14.1 implies it by defining Letter as ANSI A, and it is half of that.
Planner makers adopted the size for ring-bound organizers, where it became known as Organizer L in some product lines. Today it is most often produced by folding or cutting Letter stock rather than bought as pre-cut sheets.
